There comes a moment when someone becomes aware of what one truly wants. Chiara Hoijer had that moment and realized that she completely sees herself in the world of beauty. Because of this, and the amount of love she has for makeup, she decided to drop out after the 1st year of university to pursue beauty artistry. She is a social, outspoken, and a helpful 21-year-old who was born and raised in Curaçao and is currently living in Rotterdam. At the age of 12, when she started high school, she discovered her interest in makeup when an old friend of hers applied mascara on her lashes. She pretended to dislike it because she was not allowed to wear makeup to school. Even so, the next day, she wore it anyway! “I was fascinated by the way it made me look!” This experience opened the doors that led her to the world of beauty, through which she chose to walk. So, painting, which was her way of expressing creativity, changed into doing makeup up. Chiara is truly an artist at heart.

Finding oneself
Chiara explored many ways to express her creativity. When she was younger, she was allowed to participate in fashion shows, drawing competitions, street painting festivals, makeup competitions, Tumba festival at the age of 10, and she used to be a Kingdom Youth Parliamentarian. But she kept finding her way back to makeup because of her love for makeup and because of how the different paths within the beauty industry intrigue her. She believes that the steps she takes within this industry are always in connection with who she is. “The steps you take don’t matter if the intention behind them doesn’t align with who you are”.

Keeping up with the beauty industry
Chiara loves makeup because of the art and the history behind it and she really appreciates the place makeup earned in the market. She always says, if something goes wrong in the economy “you’ll find me doing brows around the corner and I’m not even kidding”. Even so, the makeup world has its challenges. Currently, Chiara is very active on social media. “In doing so, I aspire to be more original and more consistent with my content”. It is a real challenge to keep up with the world and its trends. Regardless, she is finding her way among the many inspiring makeup artists.

Being and forgiving
Chiara sees makeup as a tool one can use for literally any reason. So, according to Chiara, makeup does not have a general purpose. “People (me included) use makeup for a lot of different reasons. And I don’t think there is anything wrong with any of those reasons. […] It’s not always that deep”. It is more important as human beings to “learn to confront and forgive” ourselves for the things we regret and to see everything we believe are our shortcomings as our beauty and what makes us unique. “The glow you will get after that, no Anastasia highlighter can top”.

Chiara dedicates her time to makeup while taking care of her personal life, which includes more traveling, especially in Europe. She is currently working at Le Rouce Beauty Bar in Rotterdam, at which she is looking forward to seeing more people from Curaçao. Soon, she will be giving workshops at a boarding school for kids with special needs. “I’m beyond excited to start!” Chiara is ready to take off on these paths in the beauty industry while practicing to develop her skills. Practicing means to have patience while exploring, learning, and defining the type of artist you are along the way. You will become good at what you practice. “So, be mindful of that and always be true to yourself as much as you can”.
